Tribute

Hard to bear

"Mans Tragic Ambition"

Inspired by her beauty

our great achievement stands

the largest moving object

built by man's own hand

The name we gave is fitting

and helped us to believe

"Titanic" is unsinkable

a long life she will lead

The 10th of April 1912

and "Titanic" sails at noon

shouts of joy come from the crowd

but silence follows soon

Gradually, as hours pass

our ship increases speed

to reach New York ahead of time

an ambition fuelled by need

The days go by so graciously

the distance made so great

as night draws in and darkness falls

with it comes our fate

Hushed words we hear in voices low

and orders from the crew

with tales of ice that passed so near

our reservations grew

"All hands on deck!" the captain shouts

Mother and Child were called

and as the sound of water grew

the bow began to fall

Screaming heard from every mouth

was present all around

what haunted most, and echoes still

was the deathly silent sound

And now she sits so elegant

in oceans blue and deep

"Titanic's" found her resting place

where forever she will sleep.

First Officer Murdoch Informs Smith of the Collision.

"Lost in Vain"

I close my eyes to imagine their fate

I see my loved-ones reluctant to leave

bidding farewell from the crowded deck

as the lifeboats descend on the Sea

A final kiss, a long wave goodbye

and my most precious belongings depart

I gaze down with a smile as they lower away

ti's a sight that unsettles my heart

I walk through the crowds with my fellow men

and a fact soon enters my mind

there aren't enough boats for those still onboard

over half will be left behind

I quietly stand with my hands on the rail

as I watch how the boats move away

far from this Ship that is sinking with ease

this Ship on which I am to stay

Young Bride from Marconi is talking to Smith

and words of good fortune I hear

the Steamer Carpathia is coming up hard

and now Hope replaces my Fear

Men dressed in their best stand Gallant and True

with their Servants they patiently wait

to follow Titanic is their only request

and with Honor they embrace their fate

To the Stern of the Ship with others I run

as Titanic sinks at the Bow

"Every man for himself" our Commander calls

for I believe that's the way of it now

The noise of explosions distract my thoughts

and the lights on the deck start to fade

as I stand with the Steerage I become well aware

that my Wealth cannot come to my aid

Panic sets in as the water comes close

for my loved-ones I search all around

I find them watching from their boat far away

and I call, but I make no sound

As I fall far below into water so cold

one thought is all that remains

"What a great loss of life we have had to endure

to achieve an ambition so vain".
