Below is a list of items I used as research materials whilst designing this site, including Books, CD-ROMs, Videos and Exhibitions. If you have a keen interest in Titanic, may I suggest viewing as many of the items as possible. The books written by Survivors for instance, record vivid and meticulous first-hand  accounts of the disaster, while the CD-ROMs provide infinite reference material.

Books

Walter Lord's fascination with Titanic began in 1926 when he was still a small boy. After 20 years of research, he completed his book "A Night To Remember", which has become known as "The best on it's subject".

First published in 1913, it provides a unique record of the most traumatic event in Maritime History. To read a short extract from this book, concerning Col. Gracie's escape from the sinking ship, click [here].

Published in 1912, the book describes a graphic and thrilling account of the sinking of the greatest "Floating Palace" ever built.

In this first ever biography of Edward John Smith, Gary Cooper investigates the evidence and tries to elicit the truth about the life and times of the Merchant Navy's most controversial Captain. A fascinating insight into the World's most respected Captain.

Compiled in 1998, this book shows the Newspaper Articles of 1912 which first announced the tragedy of Titanic. From the "All Saved" Headlines, to "1,595 Souls Lost", this collection gives you the information that the whole world was reading following the disaster of the Unsinkable Ship. 

The U.S Navy plan to raise the wreck of Titanic in the hope of recovering a precious cargo stored in her hold. Cussler sets the pace in the very first chapter, and leaves you thinking, even hoping, that raising this magnificent ship would be a possibility.

Follow Robert Ballard and his team as they make the miraculous discovery of the wreck of R.M.S Titanic. Learn about the "Argo Technology" that was used to map the final resting place of this unforgettable Ship. Containing Beautifully Illustrated paintings of the two sections, and comparison photo's of how she was, and how she looks now. A must for all Titanic enthusiasts.

CD-Roms

Starring Kenneth More and Honor Blackman, this film (based on the book by Walter Lord), faithfully depicts the drama, the heroism and the horror of the most famous maritime disaster.

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio star in this Oscar Winning tale of love onboard the R.M.S Titanic. Accurately portrayed using modern day special effects, Cameron has re-born the fascination with Grandest Ship ever built.

A theatrical adaptation of the book written by Clive Cussler, Starring Alec Guinness and Jason Robards. The U.S Navy succeeds in raising the wrecked Titanic in the hope of finding a precious element - Byzanium, in her cargo hold.  After decades at the bottom of the Atlantic, Titanic finally completes her journey, and docks at New York harbor. 

Using stills, archive footage and an interview with the most lucid of all survivors (Eva Hart), this documentary follows the tragically short life of the Titanic, and the disaster that should never have happened. 

Investigating the reasons for the tragedy, Peter Williams delves into the questions behind the safety equipment onboard Titanic, namely the provision of lifeboats. Using survivor's accounts and transcripts from the British Enquiry, he attempts to find an answer to the question of responsibility.

Follow Dr Robert D Ballard on his 1986  Return Expedition to the world's most exclusive ship wreck, and witness the most breathtaking pictures ever seen of the R.M.S titanic. 

Exhibitions

Titanic & Lusitania.

A fascinating Exhibition showing artifacts from the Disaster, including a survivor's life belt, a Marconigram sent from the Titanic, by Jack Phillips, shortly before she foundered, and the Model of the Ship that was built for the British Inquiry. After seeing the Exhibition, you can visit the old White Star Line offices, which are situated just across the road from the Museum.

 The Titanic Experience.

 Listen to survivors stories as you learn the history of R.M.S Titanic, from her construction in Belfast, to the the discovery of her wreck by Dr Robert Ballard. View videos of her tragic story, and see how the wreck looks today with an 8ft model of her bow section. At the end of the tour, an extensive Titanic souvenir shop can be found with an excellent selection of books, posters and memorabilia. 

View a vast amount of Local History concerning Edward J. Smith, including a census taken on 30.03.1851 listing the four occupants of 51 Well Street, (Smith being just 1 year old). A second census, taken 02.04.1871 shows Smith and his half brother, Joseph Hancock, listed as Seamen living at No. 30 Well street. 

Building this highly detailed model by Revell, is an excellent way of learning the Ship's layout.
