Harry Senior was born in Doncaster (England) in 1881, and like many other young men at that time, began a life at sea when he was still a teenager. Harry joined the Army at the mere age of 16 and in 1899 he fought in the Boer War at the Rank of Private, but his love for the Sea soon returned. At the age of 29 he was signed up as a Fireman onboard the White Star Line's new Flag Ship... the R.M.S Titanic.
Little is known regarding his escape from the deck of the Stricken Ship, but Harry did manage to somehow get onto the upturned Englehardt B, which had been washed away from the ship when the forward funnel collapsed. Over 30 men, including Harry, Second Officer Lightoller, Col. Archibald Gracie and Head Baker Charles Joughlin spent the night trying to distribute their weight evenly, so as not to sink the already crippled lifeboat. In his book entitled "Titanic", Colonel Archibald Gracie refers to Harry on several occasions, and in one such extract remembers Harry telling the the rest of the men on the Englehardt, how he saw Captain Smith clinging to its Hull just seconds before the wave from the funnel washed them clear of Titanic. This final sighting of the Captain was also witnessed by J. Maynard, the Ship's Entree' Cook, although what actually happened to Captain Smith is still shrouded in mystery.
Two years after his escape from Titanic, Harry Senior once again fought for his Country, this time as a Seaman onboard Q Boats defending convoys in the Atlantic during World War 1. For the rest of his life Harry traveled the World, and held several jobs including a Bush Ranger in Australia, a Cowboy in South America and a Gold Miner in South Africa. He returned to his Home Country (England) in the 1930's where he settled as a Docker in the East End of London.
In 1937, in the Town of Newcross, Harry (aged 56) sadly passed away. It is estimated that during his lifetime, he had traveled the World 3 times over!.
